Activities - Walking: South Downs, Cuckmere Valley
Alfriston is set in the middle of the South Downs, with splendid views all around. For keen
walkers it is paradise, with many different length walks from our front door. Walkers are always welcome
in the pub. Don’t worry about those muddy boots, just give them a kick on the kerb before you enter.
The South Downs Way runs through Alfriston, giving the option to walk in either
direction to explore and enjoy the South Downs, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In addition
there are a number of different walks to undertake:
- walk to view the Long Man Of Wilmington
- stroll all around the village's alley ways and paths
- take the river path to the Cuckmere Haven
- be impressed by the churches of Lullington, Littlington and Alfriston on a circular route
- see the 'white horse'
There is a specialist village walking shop where equipment can be purchased and
a number of village shops have maps of the area.
A local rambler bus service will help to get you around the area. For details please view
Cuckmere Valley Ramblerbus
For full details on the South Downs Way, please visit the
Seven Sisters Country Park web site.
